Disclaimer! (This is my first attempt at a first impressions review, so bare with me)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Crimson Moonlight is a band I've always had a strange relationship with. I know they have very solid content, I've just never spent a great deal of time listening to them. I've found Veil of Remembrance playing in my car several times, but nothing past that one album. So, I'll try to give this review as someone who's only somewhat familiar with Crimson Moonlight.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
To start with, this is Crimson Moonlight's first full-length album in 12 years, and their first album at all in 7 years. I had no idea that they were even still still around, so seeing that they were releasing a new album was a pleasant surprise. It's become a trend to see old bands come back and release new material (One Bad Pig is one that comes to mind). Unfortunately, unlike the albums of many bands that have come back, this one failed to impress. Let me explain.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
First and foremost, this album suffers from most of the tracks sounding the same. It's really had to tell when some tracks end and others begin. Another issue the album has is speed, or; or more precisely, an excess of it. I've never doubted Crimson Moonlight's ability to provide speed. And it's not that I don't appreciate the speed. It's just that it never stops. The insane speed eventually just becomes one droning noise that very few peaks. A few breaks or change-ups would be nice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
With all this being said, I still enjoy the album and highly recommend it for any Crimson Moonlight fan. If you're new to Crimson Moonlight though, I'd recommend you give Veil of Remembrance a list. </div>

Album: On Solid Ground<br />
Genre: Deathcore </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
Year Released: 2007</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
Rating: 8/10 </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
This is one of many bands that could be considered "One EP Wonder" bands. On Solid Ground formed in 2005, and broke up in 2008. There was apparently a reunion show a year or two later, but I don't know where or when it was. A great deal can't really be said about the band's history, since they only had a myspace, and there really isn't a lot there. But we're not here to talk about the band's history. We're here to talk about this album.<br />
On Solid Ground is a very well-crafted deathcore EP. It hails 7 in-your-face tracks, full of harsh lyrics with a strong biblical base. The drums and guitars are what you'd expect in any deathcore album. Plenty of riffs, some chugging, and enough blast beats to keep you entertained. The instrumental work does start to get a little repetitive, but not so repetitive that you'll get annoyed.<br />
The vocals are what stand out on this release. Their vocalist had little relent, and it's very evident in every track. You'll find plenty of pig squeals and harsh yells (with occasional understandable yells). I'll admit, I'm not sure how much voice their vocalist had left by the end of each show.<br />
This is one album I highly recommend for someone who's frustrated with modern deathcore, and whants a little more death than core in their metal. You'll have to find this album on a file-sharing site though. No physical copies are available (to my knowledge), and you certainly can't find their material on iTunes or amazon. <br />

As a child I bought fire insurance: I heard someone teach on Heaven & Hell,

life. As a youth: I attended a conference where I encountered the Spirit of God
for myself and committed myself to Him. Later as a young adult: I experienced
some serious faith challenges that ultimately encouraged me to study and really
learn why I believe what I believe about God, and gain revelation about His
nature. As a result I have firm convictions that I am able to relate in person,

<span style="color: red;">I was raised in a very musical

I can remember, I knew I would be performing music of some fashion for the rest
of my life. My desire for technical instrumentation, love for the guitar, and
joy for pushing boundaries, made a metal band an easy outlet to choose.
Furthermore, I have long felt that metal-heads are an often over-looked mission
field that most believers are not willing to address. </span></div>

obviously metal; but I also wanted to convey something significant and serious
about our faith at the same time. A “requisite” is a requirement due to a
particular circumstance. Because of humans, there is sin in the world; and sin
is the circumstance that requires death. Before sin there was no death.
Furthermore, for followers of Jesus, there is a daily requirement of death to
self. Disciples of Jesus Christ do not walk an easy path; it is a daily death-march
discipleship that requires you carry the instrument of your own execution. </span></div>

variety of messages, and these change over time. In the beginning we focused a
lot on glorifying God, while warning of the dangers that await those who don’t
choose Him, and communicating some of the experiences of those who choose to
align with Jesus Christ. More recently, we have been much more specific about
certain topics and we’re more deliberate to make sure we are teaching sound
biblical theology and not religious assumptions taught in most churches. We
still write a lot about the supremacy of Yahweh, and the evil that is natural
in this present age of wickedness; but today we give much more attention to
details, and our presentations are more theatrical and dramatic.</span></div>

and more people are familiar with extreme metal genres, consequently we hear
this less from believers these days. What’s amusing to us is how many
nonbelievers assume we are satanic or anti-religious at first listen. We don’t
sound like what is commonly understood as “Christian metal”, so most
non-Christians don’t expect we are until they hear the message. This temporary
misconception doesn’t happen at shows however; we conduct ourselves in such a
way that people know we are “different”. It’s actually quite powerful when we’re
out in the world and our music opens doors with someone who now feels that they
can be real with us without fear of criticism. </span></div>

<span style="color: red;">Before “ABC” we appeared on
“Screams of Abaddon 2” on Dysmorphic Records; more recently we appeared on
another called Florida Metal Underground. We don’t do compilations often
because most of the time the artists are expected to pay to be featured on the
release; then the artists get copies to sell themselves to recoup their
investment. Often this is the entire marketing strategy of those compiling the
artists; which means, even though “exposure” is the goal, the only new fans we
might get are those to whom the other bands sell their copies (if they don’t
already know us).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Usually, you can’t

<span style="color: red;">Around the time our hiatus began,
I was performing with other bands as well (Archer & AnTheorem), and within
a year all 3 bands came to a halt; each for different reasons. DR was the only
band that had collectively decided to take a “break”. During this time people
were getting married, going to college/seminary, joining the military,
participating in mission trips, having babies, etc. We hadn’t decided to quit,
but we hadn’t even spoken about reuniting either. The reunion happened when 3
of us spoke about meeting up for what we called “nostalgia night”; an
opportunity to play some songs together and scratch a collective “metal itch.”
In preparation for “nostalgia night” I just started riffing for fun. Then, once
we were together, the others asked if I had anything new to share. So much for
nostalgia; we were back! </span></div>

<span style="color: red;">Yes; and kind-of yes. As the
primary writer I have long desired to include the symphonic and cinematic

the resources to make that happen. So we performed a form of melodic death
metal with other various elements. In the last few years virtual instruments
have come a long way in quality and accessibility; so now we can make metal more

understanding. Everyone has a right to an opinion, even if it’s wrong and/or

of music, I expect a lot from my musical entertainment: skill, technique,
flare, adventure etc. I want to be impressed by the musicians and I want to be
drawn into the musical performance. Metal genres and artists provide the most
experiences of this nature in the current world of music. As a youth I listened
to classical composers and 70’s classic rock bands back to back, and then I
found metal bands like Tourniquet, Metallica, and Believer. After which it just
progressed from Living Sacrifice and Mortification to other more complex bands
who are now our contemporaries. Consistently my favorites are those who
incorporate really heavy metal elements with very complex and exciting
symphonic and orchestral arrangements. </span></div>

right before we were supposed to record “Second Death.” We actually changed the
studio schedule a little to accommodate for a last-minute work trip William had

weren’t sure how it was going to turn out, and suspected we would have to reschedule
with the studio. I went to visit Will at his home when he returned to deliver
some family aid and see the damage for myself. Naturally I took pictures, which
can now be seen in our studio “Vlog”. It was only a couple days later when
William went into the studio and blasted out the parts in just a couple hours.
Nothing short of a miracle, it was one of the fastest healings any of us are
aware of. William is an amazing drummer, one of my oldest friends, and an
honorable man of godly character; I feel incredibly blessed to work with him.
This seems an appropriate to shout out to my other brothers in metal: Vincent
St. James, Joseph, and Justin (aka Regnal the Just); all fine young men. </span></div>

<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Gag is a great christian grinder from Germany. He's had several projects, but perhaps his most well known is Vomitous Discharge. VxDx was featured on several christian and secular grind splits and compilations. He also released a handful of stand-alone releases. </span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">VxDx first started with an extremely gorey grind (with lots of vocal pitch shifting), but later transitioned to a more modern grind. No songs have been released since 2010, and Gag has no plans to do so in the near future. So please, take the time to read this interview, then scour the interwebz for his music. Anyone who loves their grind groovy and gorey will find exactly what they need here.</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Questions for Gag of Vomitous
Discharge</span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">1. What is your testimony and how did you begin your relationship with
Jesus?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I was raised in a Christian family, so I considered
myself a Christian from the beginning. I can’t remember a time when I did not
see myself as one, as I was always going to the kids programs at church, youth
groups, the church service etc. Looking back, being a Christian was more like a
family tradition for me until my teenage years though, because I didn’t really
allow Jesus to guide me and have an effect on my life. Especially not during
puberty, when a major part of one’s existence seems to revolve around being
cool and to fit into the gang, to be accepted by your colleagues at school etc.
This changed when I was about 15 years old, so in 2000, more or less. I had
developed a certain interest in harder music through my guitar teacher back
then, who still plays in a thrash/death metal band today, and I had read about
the band Mortification. Even though I wasn’t living a really Christian life, I
still didn’t want to listen to satanic music, so reading about Christian death
metal was quite something. After listening to Mortification’s “The Silver Chord
is Severed” and “Break the Curse” (which didn’t convince me 100% yet) I ordered
a double CD re-release of the albums “Scrolls of the Megilloth” and “Post
Momentary Affliction” and when I listened to these two albums it was simply the
heaviest and most brutal music material I had ever encountered so far. That had
quite an impact on my faith, because it was then that I realized that living a
Christian life doesn’t necessarily have to be boring and dusty, but you can
really live with and for God and still have your own, maybe very special
hobbies, like playing brutal metal, which you can use to glorify him. So it was
around that time that my faith became an actual conviction and my relationship
with Jesus started, even if somewhat small, and it developed into an actual
relationship over the next few years, linked to my desire to play in a
Christian metal (preferably death metal) band as well.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">2. How/What inspired you to start Vomitous Discharge? What inspired the
name?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">There were, in fact, two main things that came
together at the right time in early 2006. But to start at the beginning, I
formed a Christian metal band with a few guys from my church/its youth group in
late 2003 and we called ourselves Cured Leper (the band’s name changed to Pesticides
in 2007). At first I was the rhythm guitarist and singer, later on (in 2004 or
2005) I switched to vocals only. The idea was to play death metal, but in the
beginning our songs were rather a mix of basic thrash, black and doom metal
that slowly developed into actual death metal with old-school, technical and
brutal elements. Over the years, I was getting more and more into heavier and
more brutal styles of underground music, mostly in the death metal and
especially in the grindcore and goregrind areas, so at the time that was really
my thing and I wanted to play brutal stuff only. Therefore I was sometimes
feeling a bit frustrated when the guys came up with a new song that started out
quite brutal, but then changed to something more melodic at a certain point.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Then in the beginning of 2006, we bought a digital
recorder for Cured Leper to be able to record rehearsal tracks of our songs. Us
owning this device spawned my idea to form a one-man-band in which I would
record all the instruments by myself, one after the other. That way I could
still sing in Cured Leper “like I should” and at the same time go for the more
extreme kinds of music that were incompatible with the band’s sound.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">So my idea to form a grind project was there, but it
was a very thought through decision to go for goregrind and not grindcore. I
saw that there was simply so much stuff going on in the goregrind scene that
was and still is just so wrong to me, mainly in terms of album artworks and
themes/topics, like the promotion of murder, rape, misogyny (that especially in
the porngore sector, obviously) and other things like that. I felt that I
should contribute to making alternatives to such material available, since the
Christian sector didn’t have that much to offer. There were only Vomitorial
Corpulence (great band throughout, still one of my goregrind and grindcore
favorites today), Empty Grave (though way more noisegrind and noisecore than
goregrind, if you think about it) and a few others that I just discovered later
on, like Carkemis and No Return To My Vomit. What also struck me is that not
only were there so few bands, but these few bands also had only very few
releases out there as a whole, which is a pity.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">So I decided to play goregrind and the idea was to do
something that looked and sounded quite similar to non-Christian goregrind,
however with a different meaning behind the pictures and titles used. I wanted
to have a name that fits the goregrind thing perfectly and that would also
describe my sound in an appropriate way. Vomitous Discharge simply stuck once
it came to my mind. I thought and still think that it sounds really cool and
that it fulfills that purpose of describing the music quite well.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">3. What message were you trying to convey to whomever picked up a copy
of your releases?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I already hinted it in the previous answer, I wanted
to make things look like a completely regular goregrind release, but with an obvious
different message and meaning once you check out the song titles. The center of
my message was God’s victory over everything satanic, demonic and sinful.
Therefore, I addressed several things in my song titles that God will someday
eradicate for good, incl. several prominent sexual perversions that keep being
advertised in gore- and porngrind. There were also a few songs like “VomitGore
ChristCore” that I would rather put into the worship category, as they point
out the purpose of Vomitous Discharge: the glorification of Jesus and the
project’s focus on him. Quite a few songs also referred to the concept of our
flesh dying, so that our lives can be more focused on God, and also some tracks
about the sinful human condition. My song titles on the split with xBarneyx and
Whorifik dealt with the fruits of the Holy Spirit in a non-gory way, even
though the songs themselves were clearly goregrind.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">But you asked me what message I was <u>trying</u> to
convey and as a matter of fact I know that not everybody got the message. There
were Christians speaking out against my project because they couldn’t see the
project’s focus, even though I publically posted comments about all my song
titles and their meanings on the web (myspace, back then) to make things really
clear. I also know that several regular goregrind listeners didn’t take note of
the spiritual background of the project that much, they just listened to it
because they enjoyed the music and they didn’t pay attention to the meaning of
things. But I do know that there were a lot of people that understood was I was
trying to say. Some enjoyed it a lot, some did at least respect it and others sent
me hate-mails, cursing me etc. Even though the last-mentioned bugged me at
first, I guess it’s mostly that kind of response that shows that my message was
indeed very clear to a lot of people, which was a good sign to me.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">4. How did you record? Explain, and if you can, include what software
you used? </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">In the beginning, I recorded with the Zoom MRS-4
recorder and did all the mixing with the software that came with it. Then I
used Audacity to cut the end and beginning of each song and that was it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">To record the material, I bought some microphones for
the drum kit and a small mix-board to be able to do the drum tracks, then I
recorded guitar and finally vocals. On the “Severe Head Trauma” demo CD-R,
there were only natural vocals, without any effects added. Later on I bought
the Digitech Vocal300 effect pedal that allows you to create gore vocals if you
know what settings to use and how to “sing” into the microphone, so all the
following goregrind recordings featured both processed vocals and natural vocals.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">In 2009, I decided not to use the Zoom device anymore
and switched completely to Audacity, but the basic procedure remained the same:
one instrument track after the other, but from then on also with bass guitar,
which I think was a pretty good addition to the sound of VxDx.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">5. How much involvement did you have with the 6 way Sin decomposition
split?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I remember that the split was planned as a 4-way at
first; I was invited by Eternal Mystery, Demonic Dismemberment and Flactorophia
to do this split with them. I came up with the title and did the initial draft
of the cover; I think you can still find the cover of the 4-way split floating
around on the net. After we did our initial plans and some initial artwork, I
remember we got kind of stuck when we got to the point of finding someone to
release the CD. I think it was about that time that Chris Valentine from
Vomitorial Corpulence got interested in this split and asked us if he could
join with some Vomitorial Corpulence tunes that the band had been recording
after a rather long break. These were in fact demo recordings but turned out
pretty cool, and of course we didn’t have to think twice if we wanted to be on
a split with Vomitorial Corpulence... :-) It was a real pleasure for us to have
them on board. In the end Chris was a major help for all the planning and
actually getting things done, I don’t think we could have done the release
without him. He also helped a lot with the artwork; he refined my version of
the cover. Also, he financed 3/5 to 4/5 of the CD-pressing (500 copies), 1/5
was financed by me and José/Flactorophia contributed some funds as well. It was
also his idea to invite Engravor to the split, which ultimately made it the
6-way that got released.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">(I’m aware that most of my answer is actually about
Chris’ involvement and not mine :-) but I really wanted to show how much he
helped the project progress.)</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">6. Do you ever receive any backlash from the Christian community for
doing splits with secular bands?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I think that I am my own biggest critic here. In fact,
I can only remember one such occasion at the moment, which is a pretty negative
review about the “6-way Sin Decomposition” split CD on some Christian blog or
so. The writer had his doubts about Vomitous Discharge and how Christian the
project really is because he was aware that I did indeed contribute a couple of
songs to a release called “15 Ways Porn Gore Grind” a year later or so. I must
admit that I can understand his concern and this story is one of the things that
I’m really not proud of when it comes to the biography of my project. I emailed
the writer to explain myself, but I don’t think he ever revised his review, so
I’d like to add an explanation here.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I found out about that “15 Ways...” CD via some online
advertising and saw that there were a couple of goregrind projects on it that I
was interested in at the time. I contacted the label to get a copy of it,
assuming it had already been released, but it turned out that one of the bands
still didn’t submit their material and the label then offered me that spot on
the release. Given that I had two tracks that were recorded for another release
that never happened, I accepted his offer regardless the title (the artwork was
not pornographic but featured some accident or autopsy gore photos) because I
figured it would be cool to be one a split with those 2 or 3 bands I enjoyed. I
also thought this would be a good opportunity to “reach out” and get my stuff
to people that don’t have anything to do with Christianity.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">A similar thing happened in 2009 when I was invited to
a goregrind compilation from a secular label and I accepted, not knowing that
the label would later create an artwork for it that features several
pornographic images, which I just got to see once it was released.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Another thing that went into that direction is the
split with xBarneyx and Whorifik in 2007. They invited me, but in the end, it was
mostly distributed through my label, Vomit Bucket Productions (VBP). Both
projects are secular and xBarneyx put a pornographic sound sample into one of
his tracks. Being the one that distributed this release with that sample the
most kind of bugs me today.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">So these are all cases that I’m not too happy about
nowadays. However, I also know that God can also use bad things and bad
decisions to achieve something good, so I have hopes that my naïve intention of
reaching out to non-believers worked at least a little bit and that someone was
reached that wouldn’t have heard about my project or gotten to know about God otherwise.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">7. How long ago did you start Vomit Bucket productions, and what
inspired you to start it?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">VBP officially started in 2007. I was about to
self-release Vomitous Discharge’s “Festering Carcass covered with Rot” pro CD-R
and I thought it would be cool to have a label logo on it, given that it was a
professionally duplicated CD-R with pro-printed artwork. Inspired by the name
Vomitous Discharge, I came up with the name Vomit Bucket Productions for that
pseudo-label (I still think that this name has a really cool sound to it, hehe)
and assigned the catalog-number VBP 001 to the release. From then on, every
time I self-released something from VxDx, it would feature the VBP logo and a
catalog-number. It was only in 2008 that I also released non-VxDx material on
it, which was stuff from my death metal band Pesticides and some of my
side-project material. It took another year until the first release that did
not feature recordings by me in any way came out.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">8. How are things going with Vomit Bucket Records?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Sadly it’s not doing too well. The past years have
been a constant up and down, especially regarding sales. While things seemed to
get a lot better by the end of 2013, 2014 was rather a down year again and
since my time to produce releases also became more and more limited during the
course of last year, I decided to really slow down now. The label is not dead,
but there’s absolutely nothing planned at the moment (now = February 2015).
I’ll see if I’ll still release some stuff from myself on it someday, which
would most probably be something from my nowadays main project Ataraxy (harsh
noise / HNW). Maybe I’ll still invite some other artists for once-in-a-while
releases, but it’s nothing I see for the very near future. So just wait and see
how things turn out.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">9. You’ve stated on your blog that during the goregrind era of VxDx, you
didn’t actually use vocals. You would simply give “Christian titles” or make a
biblical statement with the titles of your songs. Why did you make this choice?<span style="color: red;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">That’s not entirely correct; I did always use vocals,
it’s just that I didn’t write any lyrics during the goregrind days of VxDx. So
the vocals were thought through vocal patterns, but without any words behind
the burps. There’s just one exception: my cover version of the Christmas tune
“Joy to the World”, for which I used the German lyrics :-)</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">But to answer your question, I took this decision
because many secular goregrind bands don’t write any lyrics either and just go
for titles. That didn’t bother me, because nobody can understand anything
anyway, even if there are lyrics, given the most prominent vocal styles in
goregrind, be it natural or pitch-shifted vocals. So it was mostly that in
combination with the feeling that I would be able to pass my message by just
writing appropriate titles. Basically, I thought writing lyrics would be a
waste of time. I might come to a different conclusion today, not sure.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">10. What made you move away from the gore and go towards regular
grindcore? What made you start adding lyrics after this transition?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I was planning the split with Musikantenstadl
Massaker, a funny secular electro noisegrind project from Germany. We wanted
this to be released on 7” vinyl (which didn’t work out in the end) and I wanted
my side of it to be something really special for VxDx, given the special
format; something in the vein of my favorite old-school grindcore bands at the
time (which I still love) that released fantastic 7” EPs: Warsore, Rot and
Ulcerrhoea. Therefore I decided to write grindcore songs for this release and
therefore the whole no-lyrics-rationale described in my previous answer didn’t
apply anymore, given that all grindcore bands do write lyrics, no matter if you
understand them or not. It’s just something you have to have in that genre and
that’s good, I think. The songs were recorded in the same session as several
goregrind songs for other releases, they were really meant to be something
exceptional in the VxDx biography.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">But some time passed and about 1,5 years later in late
2008/early 2009 or so, I had the impression that I said everything there was to
say using the no-lyrics/titles-only approach. Besides that, I enjoyed doing
these few grindcore tunes very much and felt they were the best VxDx material
to that point, so I decided to change the project to a grindcore project from
then on. The only exception to that is the untitled track on the split CD-R
with No One Gets Out Alive, the final VxDx release that came out in 2010, that
doesn’t have any lyrics and is a goregrind tune in the vein of the old VxDx
material.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">11. Have you ever considered picking up VxDx again? </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Not really, but then again I did write down guitar
tabs for all my songs because you never know what the future will bring. Who
knows if I’ll ever need or want to remember how to play these songs, you know.
I got this thought about VxDx coming back as a real band every now and again,
with 3 or 4 members. I think it would certainly be really cool... but it
doesn’t depend on myself alone and it’s also a matter of time. In fact, the main
reason for VxDx to end in 2010 was that my university studies demanded more and
more time and I just had to set priorities to my activities. Writing songs and
recording them etc. really did consume a lot of time when VxDx was still
active.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">12. How are things going with your Splattered Nachos project?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Splattered Nachos hasn’t recorded anything since the
summer of 2009 and I think it was in 2011 that I talked to the other member
about it and we agreed that it’s over. But in early 2009 I started a humorous
solo-project called The People’s Noise Project and I did some funny
improvisation noisegrind and noisecore with that one instead. It became less
active in 2011 and went on hiatus in 2012, but I did a new release last year
and I’m thinking about doing at least one more, so let’s see what happens.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Back to Splattered Nachos, I’m thinking about making
all our recordings available again though, most probably via a free download
release. That should be happening at some point this year.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">13. What advice would you give to other up and coming Christian
grinders? Both musicians and listeners.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I think this is a very good and important question.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">My advice to listeners would be to be careful. When
you start digging in the grind scene, you will most probably come across
material pretty quickly that you will regret having seen sooner or later. I
know that there are things that I wish I could un-see, but I guess the best I
can do now is to acknowledge that this kind of stuff simply exists and take it
as a proof for the fact that the Biblical statements about humanity being beyond
screwed are all true. There is a lot of sick stuff around that can damage you,
so you must be cautious.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Musicians, I think, should be careful not to go for
not so intelligent clichés when it comes to themes. It actually makes me roll
my eyes when I see Christian bands with titles like “Chopping up demons” or
similar. I mean, of course it would be kind of cool if we could kill demons
using man-made weapons, like in the Doom games or so :-) but as a matter of
fact we can’t, even with Jesus by our side, and I don’t think we should choose
such immature and “Christian-macho” content for our music and message. I don’t
mean to offend anyone, so please don’t get me wrong, but I have the impression
the amount of such material is substantial. Here I must also admit, though,
that I might not be completely innocent when it comes to this kind of song
titles/lyrics, given that several early VxDx song titles do sound similar and I
might have inspired others to come up with rather silly titles, based on
misinterpretations or misunderstandings. To make it clear, the actions
portrayed in my titles were always referring to God/Jesus doing these things,
like killing demons and sin etc., not me.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">In addition, I guess being attentive about things like
the ones I described in my answer to question 6 is also a good thing. It’s good
that we can learn from one another and I hope that others won’t repeat the
mistakes I did.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">14. If you ever had the chance to, and all conditions were proper, would
you have ever taken VxDx live and on tour?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Not sure if on tour, but I was considering playing
live. Actually, it almost happened once. I was thinking about playing my
original drum recordings through the speakers and do the guitar and vocals
live, but in the end it didn’t happen and Pesticides played that night instead.
It was probably better like that :-)</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">15. What got you interested in grind, noise, and gore music? </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">After getting to know heavy metal, melodic metal,
thrash metal, death metal and black metal (in that order, step-wise), the next
thing I discovered was goregrind. I don’t remember anymore how it happened
exactly, if I read an article in a magazine or so, but I do remember the first
goregrind band that I got interested in and from there I discovered other
bands. I also found out about the regular grindcore genre then.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">What raised my interest in specifically goregrind was
the pathological/medical lyrical content of the first bands I discovered in
combination with the fast music and twisted vocals. I found it pretty
interesting and appealing. I also enjoyed the whole zombie stuff and related
extreme but fictional horror material, even though it’s rather silly in most
cases, of course.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">What I enjoy about grindcore as a whole is the
simplicity of the songs and their speed and energy. I have the impression that
the best grindcore material nowadays comes from countries with big society issues
and that it’s an excellent valve to let off some steam and shout out against
injustice.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Regarding noise, if you mean noisecore that is done
with instruments, I mostly enjoy its entertainment factor. One two three go, no
holds barred :-) For me it was a good way to get rid of some surplus energy and
simply have a good time doing it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">But if you mean noise music like harsh noise and
similar abstract electronic music, then it’s completely different because I
deem this kind of music as highly contemplative and meditative. Sometimes it
does demand a lot from the performer and the listener, but that’s something I
really like. I experienced harsh noise as a means to bring some subconscious
stuff to light and deal with it in one way or another. On at least one
occasion, I recorded material fuelled with a lot of frustration, sadness and
bleakness and the process resulted in some of the best noise recordings I ever
created with my project Ataraxy, in my opinion (I’m talking about the album
“Darkness”). But as a whole I’d say that the things that got me interested into
noise music and fascinated by it are the experimental and uncommon elements of
this genre, there seem to be no limitations or rules.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">16. What can you tell us about the great Jose of Flactorophia?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: red; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">José was one of the very first people to buy the
“Severe Head Trauma” demo from Vomitous Discharge, I think he was my first
international customer. He was a very friendly person and I’m convinced that he
is saved and that he is in a better place now, seeing with his own eyes what he
believed when he was still with us. Therefore I’m happy for him, being with
Jesus now is no loss but a gain for him for sure. It just saddens me that the
way he went must have been quite painful (fire). I’m really glad I knew him and
I look forward to meeting him for real for the first time (and not just by
email or ICQ, hehe) later on when my time to go home to Jesus has come as well :-)</span></div>

Hey everyone. I've decided it's about time to pick this blog back up, blow the dust off of it, and start posting things more regularly. My first announcement is that I've managed to get a couple interviews from some great christian grinders. I will be reviewing some of their albums over the next couple of weeks. But for now, I'll be posting the interview questions and answers.Androopyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09794031912137286500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-511223205658959884.post-89390503194591116662014-04-03T21:31:00.000-07:002015-08-26T20:13:33.294-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was another band that was very difficult to find information on. They were only around for a short time. They were what I call a "One EP Wonder". But boy was the EP that they made incredible. It still remains one of my favorites to this day. "Virtue Has Few Friends" was released back in 2007. It was then re-released with a different cd sleeve. The old one looked like this </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">

<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
The later release looked like the image at the top of this post.</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
The album beings with some demonic giggling, followed by a young girl saying "You are demons. I think the only thing you will taste today, is your own blood." You're then immediately greeted with some of the best pig squeal vocals I've heard since Impending Doom's only good album "The Sin and Doom of Godless Men". The vocals are absolutely phenomenal. The instrumental work is pretty good, and relies on riffs; like you would expect in a deathcore release such as this. The last 40 seconds of this song are an incredible breakdown. Breakdowns aren't something I really care about, since I'm very selective with my "core" music. But this one is nothing but incredible. It starts brutal, and ends brutal. </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
The rest of the album is just as great. "A Band of Hunters Stalk in Edo" and "That Was the Night Everything Changed" both have soft vocal/instrumental sections at their ends. One song I'd like to do is take some time to talk about is the last song on the album, "Complete Relinquish. Utter Abandon". It certainly isn't something that you would EVER expect to hear at the end of such a powerful and brutal deathcore album. The entire song is nothing but piano and vocals. The vocals are beautiful. The lyrics are beautiful. It simply isn't something you'd ever expect from a deathcore band, especially for their first release. It's a must-listen. And the best part is, even your overly-conservative grandmother will enjoy this track. </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
If you find yourself privileged to come across this gem, pick it up and hold on for dear life. Anyone who likes brutal music will love this album. It's what deathcore should be. It's a real shame that the band never released anything after this. I don't know anything about the band's splitting up, outside of the fact that they needed a new drummer. I only learned that because if you go to the band's Myspace page, you'll see "looking for a new drummer" in their name. </div>

Note: When I started this blog, the intention was just to bring great metal. I've had some small changes in my favorite genres. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE metal a lot, but I'd also like to post some great rock too.</div>

Album: Under Midnight</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
Genre: Industrial Rock (With some cyber influence)</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
Rating: 8/10</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
Under Midnight was a tough band to dig up information on. I'd never even heard of the band until a friend at my church gave me an old cassette tape of this very album. I was certainly NOT disappointed. The christian music industry has always been lacking in the industrial rock genre, with today being no exception. Many bands people have considered to be christian bands in this genre were just bands with one or two members that were christians. Others just made a mention to God or something. I was happy when I found out that these guys were legit.</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
The album starts out with some fake newscasts and various "cyber sounds". You're then introduced to some pretty solid work. Every bit of this is what old-school industrial was. Distorted vocals and guitars, and very solid drum work. The lyrics are pretty good too. I've only read them through once or twice, but I enjoyed what I read.</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">
The rest of the album is pretty solid. Many of the songs have introductory sound clips, none of which feel out of place. If you can find this album, I'd highly recommend you pick it up. If you're a true hipster, try finding the cassette. </div>

Band: Harvester of Souls<br />
Album: The Seperation of Wheat from Chaff<br />
Genre: Black Metal (with doom influences)<br />
Rating: 7/10<br />
Back in 2006, just around the time Eternal Mystery was getting started, Broc Toney started a small gothic Black Metal project known as "Harvester of Souls". He released a demo titled "Demo 2006". To be blunt, it wasn't very good...at all. The sound quality was terrible and the vocals weren't very good. It did have good instrumentation. (Side note, if you ever find a copy of this demo, hold on to it. they are extremely rare, I was very fortunate to run across one). On to the album. This is definitely not your run-of-the-mill black metal. This is also not your run of the mill doom metal either. Harvester of souls took on a very interesting approach. What you end up with is a strange fusion. The guitars and vocals pertain very much to black metal. The speed and progression of the songs have a very great doom influence. What is strange about this album are the drums. Drum work isn't always too important in black metal. What you have here, however, is a usage of some strange, super fast drumming, the same kind broc used in almost ever Eternal Mystery album. But don't let this drumming turn you away. The Seperation of Wheat from Chaff is a great album. Definitely buy this one if you can find a physical copy.Androopyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09794031912137286500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-511223205658959884.post-42619790809207597882012-08-09T20:14:00.005-07:002015-08-26T20:14:20.603-07:00Eternal Mystery: Brusied for Our Transgressions<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was the pinnacle of eternal mystery's "gurgle vocals" albums. This was also eternal mystery's last album featuring it's original vocalist and bassist. But enough about the history. Let's talk about the music. Broc Toney has always been an excellent guitarist here, and this album was no exception. The sound quality is much much cleaner in this album, in comparison to their first three. And the strange brutality rears is head from the first track to the last. The lyrics are much like they were for C.A.H and B.A.P.H. No real improvements were made there. One of the greatest things about this album was the length. Eternal Mystery really pushed it here. 31 tracks including another Vomitorial Corpulence cover. One special note I would like to make is that this is the LAST ExMx album to feature the higher pitched Gollumn type voices. Any fan of Eternal Mystery's old stuff should DEFINITELY check this one out. This album is considered a full-length, but it's really a compilation of 2 demos the band released back in the early 90's. This album is definitely one of the best doom/death metal albums I've ever heard (christian or non). The vocals are very well done, have a very much black metal feel to them (about as "black metal" as their logo). The guitar and drum work are very catchy (as catchy as doom metal can get). Each song tends to be rather long, but not annoying in any way. For listeners that are new to the style, I'd highly recommend this album as your starter. For the longest time I thought "I don't wanna be considered an obsessed "blogger" that says "omigosh lol rofl" type of person that makes you want to stomp kittens in distress". Then, I realized that I could use a blog for 2 awesome purposes. That purpose is to spread the love of Jesus Christ through music. There are some really awesome people out there who've made some really great music for the sake of spreading the word of God. The problem is, many people will look at a band and say "oh, it's a christian band. It's automatically going to sound terrible and generic, like the stuff on the radio". While there are many bands that are generic and repetitive(such as Impending Doom, In the Midst of Lions, etc), there are some bands that are unique, or at least show enough uniquity and creativity in their music to worth listening to. This blog will mainly consist of reviews and such for numerous albums that you probably haven't heard of!<br />
The other main purpose of this album is to show those that are already Christians that they can find some really awesome music that glorifies God. I enjoy praising my lord and savior, and I enjoy poetry about living a life as a christian. Its those two kinds of things that you will find in the music that I post on this blog. So please, metal fans, whether you are a christian, or whether you are not a christian, try listening to some of these bands. I've even got the music classified by genre, so the Grindcore lovers will get their short songs and blast beats, and the metalcore/deathcore fans will get their breakdowns. And also please note that by creating this blog, I am not making a stand against secular music. I just have a preference for the lyrical content that true christian bands use, and I'd like to share it with others.Androopyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09794031912137286500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-511223205658959884.post-30176451952441623782012-05-20T12:30:00.001-07:002015-08-26T20:15:37.356-07:00Eternal Mystery: Behold, a Pale Horse<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is Eternal Mystery's second album as a grindcore band, and there are definite improvements from their first. First off, the microphone quality improved (with the exception of one or two songs). Just in case you didn't know, in their earlier days, Eternal Mystery used a combination of low gruggles and higher-pitched yells (similar to Gollum from Lord of the Rings). The thing in this album that really takes the cake is the instrumentation. Broc Toney has always been a great guitarist and drum programmer for any musical project, and this album is no exception. This album is no longer available from any distro to my knowledge (even Broc himself no longer has a copy). If you do, happen to find one though, do yourself a favor and buy it, especially if you're an Eternal Mystery fan.Androopyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09794031912137286500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-511223205658959884.post-56750199797285931882012-05-20T12:09:00.002-07:002016-03-31T18:25:21.267-07:00Baphomet Evisceration: Baphomet Evisceration EP<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Album: Baphomet Evisceration EP<br />
Rating: 7/10<br />
Genre: Noisecore<br />
This is the third time I've revised this review. The problem with my past 2 reviews was the fact that I had little to no knowledge of the noise genre when I tried to rate them. I have since gained a better understanding of it, and I've even become the drummer for a noisecore project. This should be a much more fair review.<br />
Baphomet Evisceration was a small project by Broc Toney (Eternal Mystery, Rehumanize, Harvester of Souls, etc) and Mikel Kennedy. Not much else can be said about the band's history, since they only had a myspace and only made this one album.<br />
The album is exactly what you'd expect from a Broc Toney project. Fast, repetitive, programmed drums. You'll hear plenty of cymbal work. The guitar work is pretty similar to Broc's other projects, except this time we've go a lot of extra distortion. It actually suits it well. Some of the riffs actually end up sounding pretty sweet.<br />
The part of the album that makes it actual noisecore are the vocals. Most of the time, you're graced with deep, pitch-shifted gurgles. Turn up your bass for this one, because Mikel could get really deep. There are a few parts where I question whether or not they used a shower drain as a guest vocalist.<br />
Speaking of guest vocalists, Fillipe Diez (Northern Ash, Rehumanize, Encryptor) has a part in the album's last track; and does a pretty sweet job at it.<br />
This album is pretty enjoyable. It clocks at about 14 minutes. It feels to be just about that length. Anyone looking for some basic noise (without the insane distortion some noise bands bring) will find something listenable here. If you can't handle the weird stuff though, I say you turn away from this one and try to aim for one of the later Eternal Mystery projects.Androopyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09794031912137286500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-511223205658959884.post-70251018834645157092012-05-04T12:40:00.001-07:002015-08-26T20:16:12.801-07:00The Twelfth Amethyst: To Davy Jone's Locker<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Genre: Deathcore <br />
The Twelfth Amethyst is a Christian Deathcore band. Their sound has toned down since this albums release, which is a bit saddening because this release is filled with pure insanity. Fortunately, this insanity is "controlled". It has a very nice flow, and little of the album runs together. The vocals of all ranges, with a majority being "Bree Bree" or high pitched yells. There's also a fair mix of guttural growls and gang vocals in the background. This album is NOT for the light-hearted. Those who enjoy a bit of "inhuman" in their music will like this album quite a bit. Make sure to pick up this one from Amazon or iTunes.<br />
I would like to make a special note of track 9, for fun of course. If you're one of those who has a difficult time making it from start to finish, try skipping to this track. You'll get to hear a nice 21 Second guttural bree. That's right, 21 seconds of bree.Androopyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09794031912137286500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-511223205658959884.post-61217970147802314072012-05-04T12:11:00.000-07:002015-08-26T20:16:23.070-07:00Eternal Mystery/The Right Wing Conspiracy Split<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Album: Right Wing Conspiracy Split With Eternal Mystery<br />
Genre: Industrial Grindcore/Deathgrind<br />
Rating: 8/10<br />
This is a pretty solid release. The first 10 tracks are done by The Right Wing Conspiracy. RxWxCx is an industrial grindcore with some punk influences. The vocals are very harsh, but tolerable. The drumming is programmed and inhumanly fast, but at the same time enjoyable. The guitar work is the real story here though. Guitar work is where a lot of grindcore bands falter, but this band does it right. The last 7 tracks are done by Eternal Mystery. Eternal Mystery has made a few alterations to their sound over the years. This is actually the first album with their last "new" vocalist. You'll be greeted with some fairly comprehensible vocals, both high
range and low range (but no pig squeals and no DEEP gutturals). Try your
best to pick this little one up from Divine Metal Distro or Download it
From iTunes. You won't be disappointed. NOTE: Not for metalcore fans.
There are absolutely NO breakdowns (which is how grindcore was intended
to be).<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
There were a lot of bands in the "Myspace" days of christian metal. Some were fantastic, and released some very solid material. Some were awful. Some produced numerous albums, and many just released one EP, and called it quits. And one or two produced some near-genre-defining masterpieces that should never be forgotten. I am daring to say that Eternal Mystery's Flesh Separation is one of those albums.<br />
Flesh Separation was the last album released by the 1-3 piece Christian Death/Grind band Eternal Mystery. And boy, what an album to go out with. By this point, the band had 3 members (for the first time in years), and each showed quite a bit of skill. Broc Toney, the only member of the band who stuck around from sweet beginning to quiet end, did guitars and drum programming. Josh Cook, who had been with the band since their Split with the Right Wing Conspiracy, did vocals. Shane Carter (who was only 15 at the time!) played bass.<br />
Every track in this album has something distinguishable in it. The opening, track, Intro, starts out with some instrumentals, and ends with a short quote from the movie 300, gracefully cross-fading into the first vocal track, Bile of the Dictator. Josh's vocal skills really shine in this track. He took the same mid-high and mid-low skills used in Their Split with Right Wing Conspiracy, and really expounded upon it. Broc's guitar work is exactly what you'd expect. Down-tuned and very solid. And his drum work pretty well follows suit. Expect to hear plenty of sweet cymbal work, and insane double bass pedal-ing. Shane's bass work is quite impressive, especially for someone who was only 15 at the time. Pay extra attention to the beginning of "A Walking Tomb", which has several moments with just bass and a couple of cymbal crashes.<br />
Two particular tracks to mention are Flesh Separation and Tongues of Scorn. Flesh Separation could easily be considered the "excited" track from the album. You'll just have to listen to it to understand. The big note here is the fact that Felipe Diez (who has appeared in virtually ever Broc Toney Project) has some guest vocals in this track. Tongues of Scorns starts out with some nice, general death/grind. But after about 2 minutes, it goes silent...yet, the track isn't over yet. Skip ahead to 5:40. You're then greeted with a very mellow/solemn instrumental sequence. It's simply amazing. Just give it a listen.<br />
The last thing I want to note is more for the audiophiles, so feel free to skip ahead if you want the wrap-up. The stereo spacing in this album is great, especially for a home project. Some parts of the album tend to sit in the monophonic range. But some parts of some tracks, especially the beginnings, do really well at bouncing from ear to ear, or just separating instruments in a very enjoyable way. Make sure your favourite pair of studio phones, and give this one a listen in a lossless codec.<br />
More could be said about this album, but I won't say it. Go give it a listen. You will most likely be finding a digital copy, since this album is long out of print. If you do find a cd copy, hold on to it and cherish it deeply. It's simply a fantastic album.</div>
